If you’re a big dog lover and want to plan a vacation or move to a city that loves furry friends as much as you do, then St. Louis might be just the spot for you! Let’s dive into what makes this city such a warm and welcoming area for pups and their pet parents alike.

Pet-Friendly Stays, Activities, Dining, Shopping, and Transportation

St. Louis not only offers pet-friendly places to stay, but we also offer activities, transportation, and an abundance of dining and shopping locations that are more than happy to meet your canine companion.

The Animal Protection Association

In 1922, the Animal Protection Association (APA) of Missouri was founded. They specialize in connecting pets with people who can provide them with love and care. Every year, the nonprofit organization takes in around 4,000 animals that have either been abandoned, lost, or were unwanted. APA showcases what St. Louis stands for when it comes to loving and caring for our canine companions.

Stray Rescue of St. Louis

Another nonprofit that St. Louis is proud to be associated with is the Stray Rescue of St. Louis rescue organization. This nonprofit goes out of its way to find stray and abandoned animals in places they should never be – like dark allies and abandon or decrepit buildings in St. Louis. So, no matter how long you plan to be in St. Louis, you should definitely stop by the Stray Rescue’s new shelter. It’s sure to get you even more motivated and passionate about getting involved in the process of animal rescue.

Our Pet-Friendly Culture

Founded in St. Louis in 1943, Ralston Purina (now known as Nestlé Purina PetCare) originally was a business that worked to feed horses and mules. But the company eventually expanded and became a leader in the pet nutrition and care industry. Today, Purina works to support programs that help boost positive pet adoptions, animal-assisted therapy, rescue animals, and senior-to-senior adoptions. Additionally, as a strong advocate for responsible pet care, Purina continues to work towards positive and lasting bonds that can be created between people and their furry companions.

In 2009, Purina helped organize the St. Louis Petlover Coalition that focuses on saving more animals in need. They accomplish this through animal rescue groups, shelters, veterinary organizations, and city and county health departments. Through the raised awareness of pet welfare issues, this group has also developed pet adoptions through various community outreach initiatives.

St. Louis has plenty to offer to those passionate about the wellbeing of our playful pets. So, come visit us sometimes – and don’t forget to bring your canine companion.
