Feel Good Friday for Buddy

Buddy, a lab mix, was in the Bolivar city pound with not much hope.  This week, some volunteers from all around the country including some from your very own Happy Tails, came together to help transport Buddy from Bolivar to his new foster home in Virginia.  It was over two full days of traveling for Buddy but so worth it!  It was our pleasure to get to know Buddy – he’s such a sweet, gentle boy and made everyone smile that he met.  We know it won’t be long before he finds a home of his own.  Happy Tails sweet Buddy!  If you’d like more information on helping to transport rescue dogs, please email Katie at kbrown@happytailsinc.com.

Feel Good Friday with Pilots N Paws

One our employees recently had the opportunity to assist with transporting three Saint Bernard puppies from a high kill shelter in Alabama to a rescue group willing to accept them in Minnesota.  With such a rough start to life, this is such a great Feel Good Friday story that you’ll want to read it over and over again.  The three puppies were dumped on a major road in Alabama where they were picked up and taken to a high kill animal shelter.  From there, they were fortunate enough to meet up with someone who noticed the spark in their eyes!  She coordinated with Pilots N Paws for them to be transported to Minnesota.  Their first leg took them from southern Alabama to Memphis.  A retired airline pilot then continued with another leg to Saint Louis.  This is where our employee, Katie, and her two children picked up the dogs.  They then drove the dogs to meet a gracious couple in Cedar Rapids who agreed to foster the dogs for a few days to allow the weather to be more agreeable for travel.  The last leg took them to Corner of Kindness Rescue where all three dogs were placed into loving foster homes.  We’re so happy to also report that all three, in less than a weeks time, have potential adoptive families lined up for them!

A Love Not Soon Forgotten

So many dogs to love here!  But of my seven years at Happy Tails, my favorite dog ever would be Cody.  She was the sweetest dog and boarded here quite frequently.  Every time she came in, she was so happy and really loved coming here.  She was never a trouble maker, but wasn’t afraid to jump in the mix when others were causing trouble.  On one of her last visits, Mom brought her in with what she and the vet thought was a slipped disc in her back, but unfortunately ended up being cancer.  After that diagnosis, she went down hill pretty quickly, but Mom brought her here for boarding because she knew we would spoil her rotten – and we did!!  We even gave her a McDonald’s cheeseburger when she wouldn’t eat her food!  She passed shortly after that visit and it still brings a tear to my eye thinking about her.  She was such a gorgeous girl and was one of the first Happy Tails dogs I fell in love with!  She will forever be in my heart… Shared by Sadie Stark

Why You Can’t Give Up On Love

Shared from KC Pet Project – This has to be one of the best stories of a pet reuniting with his owner that we’ve had at KC Pet Project. Maximus the Bulldog came to our shelter yesterday as a stray, and when we checked for a microchip, we were delighted to find that he had one. When we called the family to see if their dog was missing, they informed us that Maximus had been missing FOR 2 YEARS! What makes this story even more wild? The dog went missing from their home in Oklahoma after someone hit their privacy fence with a car while the dog was the back yard. The family just moved to Kansas from Oklahoma and had recently decided that after two years, it was time to find another dog for their family. We don’t know his story or how he made his way from OK to KS, but we were beyond thrilled to reunite Maximus with his family.  To see this wonderful reunification take place, click here.  Maximus is proof that anything can happen, please make sure your pets are microchipped. KC Pet Project may be a bit far away to adopt a dog from (although, can you really put a distance on love?)  Here’s a great local event going on.

A Love to Race

Dear Friends, My life changed forever when I was brought to an animal shelter in Indianapolis, Indiana. They found me as a stray and my body was covered in fleas and ticks. I was very itchy! Luckily, the shelter contacted a Siberian Husky rescue group and a very nice lady came and picked me up. She was my Foster Mom and I am so thankful that she was the one to find me! At the time it was a very confusing process, but I’m a positive guy and I got to meet some really nice people! Did I mention I love people? Anyways, my foster mom named me Seamus and took me to all kinds of different places to get rid of all those nasty bugs and make sure that I was a healthy boy and looking my best so I could find a family! She also spent a lot of time getting to know me to make sure I went to the right home!  My Foster Mom had a huge fenced in backyard and I ran all around it as fast as I could playing with her other huskies! Did I mention I love other dogs? Foster Mom was able to set up a meeting with Richie and Leah (former Happy Tails employees) who were from St. Louis and looking for a very high energy dog to join their growing sled dog team! Can you believe it? My Foster Mom thought I would make a great sled dog! I had also never been to St. Louis before but it sounded exciting! When Richie and Leah finally came to see me I knew right away that they were the right family for me! They brought […]
